About Me
I have always valued the importance of family and having solid relationships with the people we love. I believe that the quality of our relationships shapes nearly every aspect of our lives, from emotional well-being to professional success.
But relationships do not always come easy. It can show up as constant disconnect and miscommunication with your partner. It can show up when you feel you cannot reach your child and understand what they really need. It can show up when you feel you put yourself last and are resentful that you aren't getting what you need. Or it can show up as generational issues that continue to compound.
I have three children of my own. I know many of the struggles both as a parent and as a clinician. Sometimes the most meaningful professional misses the mark because they don't really get the relentless caretaker burnout you experience as a parent to children with higher sensitivities. The fight at home, the fight at school, and the fight for them to belong and feel good about themselves.
And maybe you ask yourself, is anyone else dealing with this or am I alone? First off, you are far from alone. It's important to feel understood and validated. It's important to figure out the patterns. And it's important to access additional help when you cannot carry the weight on your own.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I see how interconnectedness plays a huge role. This is how each person in a system affects and is affected by others. A change in one person will influence the entire system. This could be your small family system, or the huge educational system that your child is part of.
I have worked extensively in the mental health profession and understand the layers to navigate. I continue to see a caseload of students in schools, and I am in constant communication with psychologists, special education teachers, and guidance counselors. I see how the need to access and properly integrate specialized services becomes critical. So many of my experiences have allowed me to see how all the moving parts of different systems need to come together more effectively to solve a problematic pattern. None of us live in a vacuum separated from outside influences, and thus we should not treat issues linearly.
